The soprano has visited the Club Marítimo de Mahón as godmother of the "Estrella del Viento" regatta team, linked to charity projects against childhood cancer: "The sails of our boat are blown by the impulse and breath of these children"
The soprano Ainhoa Arteta has been the godmother of the Estrella del Viento regatta team for the last three years, which participates in the Copa del Rey Repsol de Barcos de Epoca on board the sailing boat Disparate. These days she is in Mahón to support this "incredible and marvellous crew" racing on the yawl bermudiamo owned by Ricardo Contretas, built in 1971 in the Carabela shipyard on a design by Angus Primrose.
The artist, who has given recitals and concerts in the best theatres in the world, says that when she was offered the role of godmother, she was "very excited", as for her the sea is a fundamental part of her life. "I am a woman of the sea. Every time I go on board and sail, I have the feeling of giving myself totally to the rhythm of the planet. The sailing boat makes you feel the real rhythm of the movement of the earth," she says.
"I want to enjoy the regatta and congratulate all the crew members of all the boats, who are very well prepared and professional people. All my respect and congratulations", says the singer.
The Estrella del Viento racing team supports a project to fight against childhood cancer. "I always say that the sails of our boat are blown by the impulse and encouragement of these children. They are special sails", says Ainhoa Arteta, who is strongly committed to social causes, charities and non-profit organisations, especially in the fight against cancer and child poverty, with which she actively collaborates by participating in concerts and charity recitals.
Another reason why the lyric singer is in Mahón is because this city is one of her favourite places. "I have sung a lot in the Mahón Theatre, the first in the world, and I have a very special relationship with the friends of the Mahón opera".
His intense professional activity includes his debut at the Royal Opera Covent Garden in London, the concert in Baalbeck (Lebanon) - both with Plácido Domingo -, the Concert to Commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Palacio Bellas Artes in Mexico with Ramón Vargas, his participation in Cyrano de Bergerac at the San Francisco Opera and the Teatro Real, and in La Bohème at the Metropolitan and La Scala in Milan, among others.
